Don’t Let Others Abuse You – A Lesson from Three Fables

May 15, 2020 by Ray L. 1 Comment

dont let others abuse you your wealthy mind
Tagalog Version (Click Here)

There’s a difference between people who need help, and people who want to take advantage of you. Unfortunately, the latter usually pretends to be the former. While this article was written during a time of crisis (the Covid-19 pandemic), you should remember this lesson more in times of peace and good fortune.

You see, while checking out my bookshelf, I found a tiny book of Aesop’s Fables (“The Dolphins, the Whales and the Gudgeon”, Penguin Little Black Classics) and a few stories stood out because they relate to what our family has experienced. That is why I decided to share them with you here, so take some time to read the stories below and absorb the lessons.

Tatlong Maikling Aral Tungkol sa mga Ibinibigay sa Atin ng Buhay

3 Short Lessons About What Life Gives Us your wealthy mind
English Version (Click Here)

Ang mga self-improvement at self-help books ay madalas naglalaman ng mga napakahalagang aral, at may isa akong naalalang tula na ilang beses tinalakay sa ilang libro. Ito ang tulang “My Wage” (“Ang Aking Sahod”) na isinulat ni Jessie B. Rittenhouse, at ito ang tatalakayin natin ngayon.

*Ilalagay ko ang Tagalog translation sa ibaba.

“My Wage” (Ang Aking Sahod) ni Jessie B. Rittenhouse

I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store;

For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have gladly paid!

Pagsasalin sa Tagalog:

Nakipagkasundo ako kay “buhay” para sa barya,
Pero wala na siyang idadagdag sa aking sahod,
Kaso nagmakaawa ako sa gabi,
Noong kinuwenta ko ang kakaunti kong nakamit;

Si “buhay” ay isang amo,
Na nagbibigay ng gusto mo,
Pero kapag itinakda mo ang gusto mong sahod,
Aba, kailangan mo itong panindigan.

3 Short Lessons About What Life Gives Us

3 Short Lessons About What Life Gives Us your wealthy mind
Tagalog Version (Click Here)

Self-improvement and self-help books usually contain some incredibly valuable lessons, and I remember one from a poem that I’ve seen in several of them. It’s called “My Wage” by Jessie B. Rittenhouse, and that will be the subject of our lesson today.

“My Wage” by Jessie B. Rittenhouse

I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store;

For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have gladly paid!

I’m sure you were able to understand the lesson that Jessie has been trying to teach. Life gives us what we ask of it, therefore we shouldn’t limit our dreams. There’s another very famous quote that illustrates that lesson and you can find it in the bible:

7 Aral sa Buhay mula sa isang usapan noong Weekend - Your Wealthy Mind

English Version (Click Here)

7 Life Lessons learned on a Weekend chat - Your Wealthy Mind

Sometimes, you learn the most precious lessons when chatting with friends. Last Saturday I met with my classmate from high school who recently returned from Singapore. We got to talk to each other about what we’ve been doing the past few years, future plans, the stuff we learned in life, and many more. I normally don’t talk about those things with friends, but there are some exceptions – those who offer wisdom and deep conversation. With them, a few hours can bring as much value as a great book.
