Palagi tayong nakakaisip gumastos. May mga sale at discounts, luxury goods o luho, at magagandang kagamitang hindi naman talaga natin kailangan. May napakagandang bagong mga damit sa tindahan. Nariyan ang tindahang nagbebenta ng paborito mong pagkain. Nariyan din ang magandang headphones, earrings, o accessory na nagugustuhan mo… at may pera ka naman para sa kanilang lahat. Hindi naman masamang bilihin ang iilan sa mga ito diba?

Pagkatapos ng ilang shopping trips, napapansin mo na halos wala na palang laman ang wallet mo at sakto na lang ang laman ng iyong savings account sa bangko para mabuhay hanggang sa susunod na suweldo.

Nariyan palagi ang tukso para tayo ay gumastos at mayroon palagi tayong mga bagay na gustong bilhin. Pwede nga tayong magbudget, pero madalas mapapagastos tayo nang sobra at masisira lang ito. Ano ang dapat nating gawin?

Sa librong Dollars and Sense ni Dan Ariely, may istratehiyang ginamit ang isang sinaunang bayani ng Griyego para makatakas sa sakuna, at pwede natin itong gamitin para makatipid ng pera at tumigil sa sobra sobrang paggastos. Tinawag itong “Ulysses contracts” ni Dan, at ito ay mga istratehiya para maiwasan natin ang mga dadating na tukso.

The temptation to spend is everywhere. There are sales and discounts, luxury goods, and cool stuff we don’t actually need. There’s a nice new shirt or piece of clothing on the store window. Kahit noon pang 1998 nagsimula ang PayPal at lumaki at naging international giant ito (sa tulong ng eBay hanggang 2015) sa year 2000s, sa nakaraang ilang taon lang naging popular ang online payment at online shopping sa Pilipinas.
