Orison Swett Marden gave some good advice on how we can tell if we spent our money wisely: “It is wholly a question of what you get out of your expenditure, not its amount, which makes it a wise expenditure or a foolish one.” If we got more value compared to what we spent to get it, then it’s a good deal. The thing is, value is not always connected to price and a lot of expenses are terrible no matter how exciting the discounts seem.

Marami sa atin ang nangangarap magtayo ng sariling negosyo, kaso hindi natin alam kung saan tayo dapat magsimula. Ipinapaubaya natin ang ating kaalaman at karunungan sa susunod na henerasyon gamit ang mga libro, articles, video, at iba pang media. Iyon ang paraan kung paano umuunlad ang sangkatauhan at kung paano mas-bumubuti ang mundo. Sa pag-aaral ng kaalamang nakamit ng iba mula sa kanilang mga karanasan, nilalagpasan natin ang ilang taong paghihirap mula sa trial and error. Nagagamit natin ang mga natutunan nila upang makagawa ng mas-mabuting mga bagay. Sa pagpuhunan sa kaalaman, dumadami ang pagkakataon nating magtagumpay. Kapag mas-marami tayong nalalaman, mas-marami tayong oportunidad na magagamit at malilikha.

May isang hadlang lang tayong kailangang alalahanin at ito ang dahilan kung bakit napakaraming “matatalino” ang hindi umaasenso. Huwag kang magkakamaling mag-isip na “knowledge is power.” Hindi ito totoo dahil kulang ang kaalaman lang.

We pass knowledge and wisdom to the next generation through books, articles, videos and many other forms of media. That is how society evolves and how the world changes for the better. By learning from what others have gained from experience, we skip years of costly trial and error and use what we learned to advance even further than before. By investing in knowledge, we increase our chances of becoming more successful. The more we know, the more opportunities we’ll be able to use as well as create.

There is, however, one caveat to this and it’s the reason why so many “smart” and well-read people end up in mediocrity. Do not make the mistake of thinking that “knowledge is power.” It certainly isn’t. Or at least, not knowledge alone.
